Corruption is the biggest threat to democracy: Lokayukta member V. Ramaraj

Tamil Nadu: Lokayukta member Dr. V. Ramaraj said that corruption is the biggest threat to democracy.

The Udumalai Bar Association organized an awareness seminar on the Lokpal and Lokayukta on Thursday.

The event was presided over by Association President C. Muruganantham. Secretary A. Sivakumar welcomed the gathering.

Tamil Nadu Lokayukta member Dr. V. Ramaraj participated as a special invitee and said: Votes, voters, and elections are the foundation of democracy. Education on these is electoral education. When corruption occurs in the aspects of votes, voters, and elections, democracy will be in great danger. Lack of voter awareness, corruption, and corruption are the enemies of democracy. To create awareness among voters, electoral education must be made available to all. The role of electoral education is to spread the principles of electoral education. Parliament works to make laws, the government operates according to the law, and the courts work to resolve problems arising from the law. The Constitution should grant the Election Commission the same status as the legislative body, the executive government, and the courts. This will help eliminate corruption in voting and elections and protect democracy. Corruption is the biggest enemy of good governance and public well-being.

Most people do not know the difference between the Lokayukta and the Lok Adalat. The Lokayukta is a state-level high court against corruption.

The Lok Adalat is a method for resolving cases through conciliation and negotiation in all courts. The Lokpal was created to investigate corruption allegations against the Prime Minister, Union Ministers, and all Central Government officials.

Similarly, the Tamil Nadu Lokayukta was created to investigate corruption allegations against the Chief Minister, Ministers, and State Government officials, including IAS and IPS officers.

He said that bar associations and voluntary organizations should participate in raising public awareness about the Lokpal and Lokayukta.

Judges, lawyers and others participated in the event.
