Tamil Nadu : Police on Saturday said they have arrested Balwant Kapad, son of Gujarat state agriculture and panchayat minister Bachubhai Kapad, for allegedly cheating people of Rs 71 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (100-day action plan). Balwant Khabat was arrested in connection with allegations that 35 contract company owners received Rs 71 crore from the government before completing the 100-day action plan from 2021 to 2024. Police have so far arrested 11 people in the case, including Dahod district taluka development officer Darshan Patel. “Balwant Kapad, owner of a contract company involved in the 100-day action plan scam, was arrested on Saturday,” Gujarat state police said. Under the 100-day action plan, funds were allocated for the construction of roads and check dams in some talukas of Dahod district. However, investigation conducted by the District Rural Development Agency revealed that the concerned contracting companies were committing fraud by obtaining money from the government by submitting fake photographs. On this basis, the police had registered a case recently.
