Durg. A contract worker died due to electrocution during maintenance at Baghera sub-station of Electricity Department in Durg district. After this incident, the Chief Engineer has ordered an immediate inquiry into the matter. In the investigation, the team of Superintendent Engineer level officer will find out who is responsible for this accident. According to information, pre-monsoon maintenance work is going on at Baghera sub-station. This work is being done by the employees of contractor Ashish Deshmukh.
Sanjay Dhimar, a resident of Chandkhuri, a contract worker, was working at Bus Bar No. 2 on Tuesday. During this work, the line staff there was shut down by D Ratan. Sanjay was doing the maintenance work when suddenly something went wrong. Lineman D Ratan sent another employee to collect the luggage. During this, Sanjay was not told that the line of bus bar number 1 and 3 was operational.
Sanjay suddenly went from bus bar number 2 to three. When the line was switched on there, he got electrocuted and died on the spot due to severe burns. As soon as the information was received, the Kotwali police reached the spot. The police has established a morgue and sent the dead body to the PM. Here Durg Chief Engineer M Jamulkar has taken the matter seriously. He has constituted a departmental committee to probe the matter. A team headed by a Superintendent Engineer level officer will investigate the matter. Action will be taken against the negligent employee after the investigation report is received.
The relatives have demanded strict action against the responsible contractor and electrical worker. Under the Indian Electricity Rule, in any sub-station where maintenance work is done, the responsibility of creating a safe zone lies with the AE Maintenance and AE Zone. AE Maintenance Goswami and AE Zone Mahendra Kumar Verma were missing from the spot during maintenance at Baghera. If he had got the work done out of his AC chamber and got the bus bar discharged properly by shorting it, then such a big accident would not have happened. Without supervision, he put an unskilled contract laborer who had joined 9 months ago, on the pole.
