Constable in Gorakhpur faces threat of dismissal; Shyam Sundar Chauhan found guilty in departmental inquiry.

Gorakhpur. Departmental proceedings have intensified against Constable Shyam Sundar Chauhan, who was posted with the Dial-112 service in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district. A departmental inquiry conducted by the SP (Crime) has concluded, finding the constable guilty. Consequently, the police department has initiated the process for his dismissal. Treating the matter seriously, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has handed over the file regarding the dismissal to the SP (Traffic) for review. A report will be submitted to the government once this review is complete.

This action against the constable has become a topic of discussion within the police department. With the constable found guilty in the departmental inquiry, all eyes are now on the subsequent steps. However, there is no information yet regarding the issuance of a final dismissal order.

Constable Found Guilty in SP (Crime) Inquiry

According to reports, Shyam Sundar Chauhan was previously posted with the Dial-112 service in Gorakhpur. A departmental inquiry was underway against him, a task assigned to the SP (Crime). Upon completion of the inquiry, the constable was found guilty.

Following the finding of guilt, dismissal proceedings have been initiated. However, available information does not clarify the specific nature of the allegations against the constable or which charges were substantiated during the inquiry. Therefore, it would be premature to draw any conclusions regarding the root cause of the action.

SSP Hands Over File to SP (Traffic)

Taking the next step following the SP (Crime)’s inquiry, the Gorakhpur SSP has handed over the dismissal-related file to the SP (Traffic). The SP (Traffic) has been tasked with reviewing the file.

This process involves a review of relevant documents and records pertaining to the departmental inquiry. Once the SP (Traffic) completes the review, a report on the matter will be submitted to the government. In this context, the final procedural steps regarding action against the constable are yet to be completed.

Dismissal process initiated

The most significant aspect of this case is that, following the completion of the departmental inquiry, the police administration has moved forward with taking action. The initiation of dismissal proceedings after being found guilty could spell serious trouble for the constable.

However, being found guilty in a departmental inquiry and being dismissed from service are two distinct stages. According to current information, the dismissal process is underway, but no official details regarding a final decision have been released yet.

Allegations of absence from duty and political activity

According to available information, Shyam Sundar Chauhan faced allegations of prolonged absence from duty and involvement in political activities. It is alleged that he was active in Samajwadi Party programs and was preparing to contest the election from the Dhanghata Assembly constituency in Sant Kabir Nagar.

Reports indicate that the constable was suspended approximately three months ago. Following his suspension, he was required to report to the Police Lines but failed to register his presence there. Facts regarding his absence and political activities were incorporated into the departmental inquiry.

Shyam Sundar Chauhan: A 1994-batch constable

Shyam Sundar Chauhan is a native of Naina Jhala village, located within the jurisdiction of the Mahuli police station in Sant Kabir Nagar district. He is a constable belonging to the 1994 batch. In 2023, following his transfer from Kushinagar, he was posted to the ‘Dial-112’ service in Gorakhpur.

Departmental action was initiated against him after the allegations regarding his absence from duty and political activity came to the notice of officials. Police authorities investigated the charges, and the process for his dismissal is now being advanced. Questions Raised Regarding Political Activities

Service conduct rules contain restrictive provisions regarding active participation in the activities of any political party while in government service. In the case of Shyam Sundar Chauhan, his alleged participation in political events also became part of the departmental inquiry.

However, preparing to contest an election from an assembly seat and being officially declared a candidate are two different matters. As of now, there is no confirmation that Shyam Sundar Chauhan has been declared a candidate by any political party.

Report to be Sent to the Government

The Gorakhpur police administration has initiated further action following the departmental inquiry into the matter. The report will be forwarded to the government once the SP (Traffic) completes the review of the file regarding his dismissal.

While the departmental inquiry has established the constable’s guilt, the final dismissal order is yet to be issued. Consequently, his employment status will only become fully clear following the upcoming decision.
