Conductor slaps elderly woman in Karnataka bus, video goes viral

Hubli (IANS) | The state government has issued a circular directing employees of state-owned transport corporations to behave cordially with women passengers, but an incident of a lady conductor slapping an old woman came to light from Hubballi city on Friday. The incident took place in a bus plying from Kundgol to Hubli. In the 55-second video, an argument is seen between the conductor and the elderly woman.

As the two argue, the conductor slaps the female passenger and asks her to shut up. But, the old lady protested strongly and reprimanded the conductor for his act. Co-travellers come in support of the old lady.

Photos and videos of the incident have gone viral on social media.

The incident has resulted in public outcry against employees of state-owned transport corporations.

The free travel scheme is being used and appreciated by the people across the state. From June 11 to June 22, 5.98 crore women have availed services under Shakti Yojana. Women can travel anywhere in the state and up to 20 km to border villages and towns in neighboring states. The official statement of the state government claimed that the total cost of tickets for women passengers traveling in state-owned buses is Rs 139.53 crore.
