Nagaland: The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned the blast carried out by unidentified assailants at the residence of Minister Hashim Vasuma at Ukhrul district headquarters. In a statement, the UNC, the apex organisation of Nagas in Manipur, regretted the heinous incident of blast of an explosive device at the residence of Hashim Vasuma, Minister for Transport, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Government of Manipur, at around 8:30 pm on September 14, 2024. The statement said: “The Council categorically condemns such inhumane acts and attempts to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the area. Intimidation or threats to fulfill one’s evil will is not the way to solve the problem.” The UNC further said this cowardly act targeting the life and property of an elected representative is not only an attack on his family but also represents a challenge to all peace-loving citizens living under the “rule of law”.
The Naga apex body was directed by the authorities to immediately and thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure strict and exemplary punishment to the culprits. Besides, the council urged all Nagas to remain vigilant and determined to resist the sinister designs of adversaries and evil forces who constantly try to divide and undermine the unity and aspirations of the Naga people. “No one should act in accordance with their ill-conceived policies towards their opponents. Good understanding and peace should prevail,” the statement said. Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the apex body of the Tangkhul community, condemned the heinous act and said there was no place in society for such criminal elements. It asked the culprits to surrender before they are caught. The TNL also called upon the state government to expedite the investigation and take necessary action against the culprits.
