Complete the surface water project soon: DC

Jalandhar: Taking serious note of the inordinate delay in the completion of the Surface Water Project under the AMRUT scheme, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Wednesday directed all concerned departments to complete the remaining works on time. Chairing a high-level review meeting with officials from the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, Water Supply and Sewerage Board, PWD, and representatives of the executing agency, Larsen & Toubro Limited, the DC emphasized the urgent need to expedite work on all remaining components. He also directed the departments to initiate penalty proceedings against the executing agency for the delays in the project, as per the rules.

Dr. Aggarwal instructed the officials to prepare a detailed, component-wise timeline, ensuring strict adherence to the deadlines. He stressed that the project must be completed within the next few months, leaving no scope for further delays. He also ordered the installation of signage at prominent locations across the district for public awareness, clearly displaying the revised deadlines. Expressing concern over the poor condition of the roads, the DC stated that the delays have caused immense inconvenience to the residents, with major roads across the city remaining dug up for extended periods. This situation has resulted in traffic congestion, increased dust pollution, and daily hardships for commuters. He emphasized the need to restore the roads to their normal condition as soon as possible by prioritizing repair work in sensitive areas. Dr. Aggarwal warned that any further delays beyond the stipulated deadlines would be investigated, and strict punitive action would be taken against the responsible officials or agencies.
