New Delhi (IANS) | The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Wednesday seized 1,970 grams of cocaine in Mumbai and arrested three people, including an African national, in this connection. The official said- Based on the intelligence gathered by the DRI, a passenger who arrived in Mumbai from Addis Ababa was intercepted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on April 4. On checking the luggage of the passenger, 1970 grams of white powder (cocaine) with market value of Rs 20 crore was recovered.
In order to identify other members of the drug syndicate, the officials laid a trap and nabbed the recipient of the cocaine, the official said. The recipient had come to Mumbai from Hyderabad to get the drugs. This person was to deliver drugs to an African man in Navi Mumbai.
Efforts were on to identify and nab the African man, who appeared to be a key member of the drug syndicate, the official said. To nab him, a trap was laid in Navi Mumbai and the criminal was successfully nabbed. DRI said that a total of three people have been arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is on in the matter.
