Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has set a target to make Himachal self-reliant. He has set a deadline of the next ten years. The Chief Minister has said that Himachal will emerge as a developed and economically self-sufficient state in the next ten years. The Chief Minister said that collective work will have to be done to achieve the set targets. He said that for this people have to be made aware of the proper methods of water use and management in life. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was addressing the people on the occasion of World Water Day. He said that the state government is planning to provide clean drinking water to the people through UV technology. The state government has set a target of making Himachal a green energy state by March 31, 2026, and moving in this direction, an important agreement related to green hydrogen is going to happen soon. The Chief Minister said that there is a need to change the system and take tough decisions to make Himachal strong. The theme of this year’s World Water Day is ‘Accelerating Change’.
Calling for a change in our day-to-day practices of water use and management, he said that according to a report, by the year 2030, 40 per cent of the population may face shortage of drinking water. During this, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said that there are limited sources of drinking water and water conservation can be done with the collective participation of all. He said that the state government is making continuous efforts for water conservation. He said that despite spending about Rs 5500 crore on the Jal Jeevan Mission by the previous government, drinking water facility could not reach people’s homes in remote areas. Earlier, Amitabh Awasthi, Secretary, Jal Shakti Department welcomed the Chief Minister.

CM Sukhu said that as a result of adverse effects of climate change, less or untimely rains and snowfall, natural water sources are drying up, which is a matter of serious concern. He said that every section of the society needs to work together to conserve these vital water resources. The Chief Minister said that river water plays an important role in the state’s economy.
50 village water sanitation committees honored
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu honored representatives of 50 gram panchayats and representatives of village water and sanitation committees of nine districts on the occasion. These Gram Panchayats have signed MoU with Jal Shakti Department regarding operation, maintenance and distribution of various water supply schemes. He asked the block resource coordinators of the state, Ambedika Sharma, Renu Bala, Poonam Saini, Rajinder Kaur, Pradeep Kumar, Jagdish Chandi and Joginder Singh of district Una and district Kinnaur to work in better coordination with the village water and sanitation committees. Chitra Rekha was also honored. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also administered an oath to contribute in the conservation of nature through water and through it.
