Chief Minister Pramod Sawant flew to New Delhi on Friday evening reportedly for finalising the names of candidates for the South Goa and North Goa seats for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.
It is learnt that the Chief Minister is likely to meet BJP national president JP Nadda and other senior party leaders in the national capital in this connection.
He is also likely to discuss whether cabinet reshuffle should be effected or not. The possible fallouts of the allegation made by the assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar against Art & Culture minister Govind Gaude, may also come up for discussion.
Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Tourism Shripad Naik has been serving as the North Goa MP for the fifth time since 1999. However, there is no clarity on whether he would be nominated by BJP as the candidate for the North Goa seat this time.
It would be interesting to see whether the party will repose faith in the five-time MP or nominate a fresh face in
North Goa.
As far as the South Goa seat, which is currently with the Congress, is concerned, there are many aspirants for the BJP ticket.
Besides former MP Narendra Sawaikar, the names of former deputy chief minister Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar, former chief minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Speaker of the state legislative assembly Ramesh Tawadkar are also surfacing as probable candidates of BJP in South Goa.
