Clash at Shambhu border, more than 100 farmers injured

Chandigarh : More than 100 farmers were injured in clashes between protesters and police at various borders including Haryana, Punjab and Shambhu border during the farmers’ march to Delhi. When injured farmer and former soldier Gurmeet Singh shared this information with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the party leader reached the hospital and forced Gurmeet Singh to talk to Rahul Gandhi on phone. Punjab Assembly Speaker Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding posted on the social networking site that Shane suffered injuries to his eye and hand.

Haryana Police stopped the farmers by installing concrete slabs, nails and barricades to stop them from moving towards Delhi. Farmers tried to overcome the obstacles. Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets from the drone. According to reports, apart from the farmers, some journalists covering the event were also injured. Police claim that the protesters pelted stones.

Late last night, Haryana Police announced that 24 policemen were seriously injured after stones were thrown at them. Police wrote a letter to 24 police officers who were seriously injured in stone pelting. Out of these policemen, 15 policemen were injured while on duty at Shambhu border and 9 policemen were injured at Dita Singh (Jind) border. Police said that despite the imposition of Section 144, protesters armed with tractor carts and weapons stormed the Shambhu (Ambala) and Dita Singh (Kanauli Jind) borders of Punjab.
