Voters of Choutuppal Municipality 17th ward staged a dharna in front of the Choutuppal Municipal Office on Wednesday, protesting the unanimous election. They demanded that the unanimous election be canceled, alleging that they were denied the right to vote in a democracy. They questioned how nominations could be withdrawn without informing them. They said that if they did not exercise their right to vote, they would be considered dead and wanted death certificates to be given to them. They raised slogans against the candidates who withdrew their nominations and against Munugodu MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy. The police had made heavy security arrangements.
Choutuppal Municipality 17th Ward BRS Party candidate Chintala Umamaheswari Sailu received the B.E.F.A.Amidst the unexpected dramatic developments, BRS put aside the B.E.F.A. and joined hands with the Congress and got the B.E.F.A. and was elected unanimously. Pastham Mallamma, who was already a candidate from the Congress at that time, was withdrawn by the party leaders on the orders of MLA Rajagopal Reddy. In this order, ward voters went to her house accusing her of withdrawing money. Unable to bear this humiliation, she attempted suicide.
