Chikballapur: Food safety license mandatory

Karnataka: District Commissioner P.N. Ravindra said that all food entrepreneurs have to obtain registration or business license from the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department and also renew it from time to time.

He was speaking while inaugurating the ‘Food Safety Training and Certification’ workshop organised by the District Administration, District Panchayat, Food Safety and Drug Administration Department in the city on Wednesday.

He said that it is mandatory for all hotels, restaurants, bakeries, caterers and street food vendors in the district to obtain registration, business license and trade license from the Registrar Office, Food Safety and Drug Administration. They also have to renew them from time to time.

Failure to do so will result in a fine as per the FSSAI Act 2006. Hoteliers should constantly monitor the cleanliness of the hotel inside, outside and toilets. He said that those working in the kitchen and those handling food items must compulsorily wear caps, gloves and masks.

He suggested that no artificial colour or flavour enhancer powder should be used in food. The quality of vegetables and food items used in preparing food should be maintained.
On this occasion, Additional District Magistrate Dr. N. Bhaskar, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Food Safety and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. K.S. Prakash, Food Safety Officer Dr. K. Manjula, Dr. Ramchandra Reddy, Dr. Venkatesh Murthy, Dr. Hema, Dr. Akshay Srinivas, Dr. Satyanarayan Reddy along with officers and employees of various departments, entrepreneurs and businessmen were present.
