Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in his Budget has proposed to develop automated testing centers at 32 locations under the PPP model to facilitate fitness testing of all transport vehicles seeking renewal of fitness certificate (FC). Apart from this, an automated driving test track is being planned at a cost of Rs 36 crore.
Saying that the transport department has collected Rs 9,333 crore from tax on vehicles in the current financial year till January, the CM said a target of Rs 13,000 crore has been set for the upcoming financial year. The CM said that the growth of revenue collection in the transport department is 19% compared to previous years.
Since digitization of documents is being done in Bengaluru Central, Belagavi, Mangaluru and Bhalki on a pilot basis, a scheme will soon be launched to digitize all vehicle documents.
Separately, the CM mentioned that his government has spent Rs 3,000 crore on the Shakti scheme, which has seen 155 crore women passenger journeys since its launch.
Government has extended HSRP number plate deadline till May end
The state government has extended the deadline for installing high security number plates (HSRP) for vehicles from February 17 to May 31. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy had earlier said that only 18 lakh vehicles registered before April 2019 have had HSRP number plates and they will move forward. Time limit of three months. The Transport Department issued an order to extend the deadline on Friday.
