New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. This is her first meeting with PM Modi after becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a post on the social media platform X, “Delhi Chief Minister Atishi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” Later, Delhi CM Atishi said in a post on X, “Met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. I look forward to full cooperation between the Center and the Delhi Government for the welfare and progress of the capital Delhi.”
Atishi has taken over as the CM of Delhi after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the post of CM. Atishi is the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi. Along with this, she is also the youngest woman to hold this post. Kejriwal resigned from the post of Chief Minister after getting bail from the Supreme Court in the alleged liquor policy scam case. After this Atishi became the Chief Minister of Delhi.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s tenure began amid tensions between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre. A recent controversy has been over the allotment of the chief minister’s residence Sheesh Mahal. Finance Ministry estimates that Delhi is facing a revenue deficit for the first time in its history have also been a major bone of contention.
These issues are fuelling political rivalry between the two parties as Atishi takes over her role at a crucial juncture for Delhi’s governance and finances. According to media reports, Delhi will go for assembly elections early next year.
