Surguja. In view of Chhath Puja, on the instructions of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, the Collector and SP took stock of the preparations at Ghunghutta and Shankarghat. Also gave instructions to ensure security, traffic, parking and health arrangements.
The festival of Chhath Puja is dedicated to Chhathi Maiya and Sun God. This great festival is celebrated for 04 days. On the first day of this festival celebrated in the month of Kartik, the tradition of Nahai Khay is followed. Kharna Puja is performed the next day. After this, Nirjala fast begins. The next day fasting is observed and arghya is offered to the setting sun and on the last day, there is a ritual of offering arghya to the rising sun. During this, wishes are made for attainment of happiness and peace in life. It is a religious belief that observing the fast with a true heart increases happiness and prosperity. Also, the family members get the blessings of Chhathi Maiya and Sun God.
