Chennai: State transport employees have announced to go on strike on June 18 to address the critical challenges being faced by the employees. According to a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation employees, the strike aims to discuss key issues such as allocation of funds for salary hike and pension, considering transport corporation employees as government employees, providing exempted balance to pensioners, prompt payment of retirement benefits due from 2022.
They also stressed the urgent need to provide employment opportunities for 20,000 vacant posts and those who attack drivers and conductors need to be arrested under the Goondas Act. The employees urged the government to take action to resolve these issues to ensure the welfare of government employees and effective functioning of public services. Apart from Chennai, the strike will be held in front of the transport corporation headquarters in Villupuram, Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Pudukottai on June 18 from 3 pm.
