Chennai: No city in Tamil Nadu has managed to feature in the top 100 entries of the Swachh Survekshan ranking for the year 2023. The annual cleanliness ranking was announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Thursday.
In the category of cities with population more than one lakh, Tiruchi is ranked 112th, followed by Thoothukudi at 179th, Coimbatore at 182nd, Chennai at 199th and Madurai at 311th.
However, there has been a slight improvement in the state’s overall performance, climbing from 13th position last year in the ‘Best Performing States’ category to tenth position this year. Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are at the first two positions respectively.
“In this 8th edition, we have received feedback from 12 crore people,” Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said. Surat and Indore, two cities which have maintained their top position for six consecutive years, were chosen as the cleanest cities of the country this year too.
