Chennai: A 40-year-old techie, his elderly mother and his 10-year-old son were stabbed to death and their half-burnt bodies were found in their house in Karamani Kuppam of Cuddalore on Monday morning. Initial investigations revealed that Sugandh Kumar (40), Kamaleshwari (60) and son Nishant (10), IT professionals in Hyderabad, were killed on Friday and their bodies were set on fire on Sunday night. Neighbours informed the Nellikuppam police after a foul smell emanated from the house. When they broke open the locked door, officials found the entire room soaked in blood. Four special teams have been formed to investigate the murders.
Sugandh had separated from his wife and was living with his son Nishant. His brother Surendra Kumar works with a private firm in Andhra Pradesh. Sugandh and Nishant were living with Kamaleshwari after the death of their father Suresh Kumar six months ago, police said. Cuddalore SP R Rajaram told reporters that they are suspected to have been murdered by unidentified persons with knives on the night of July 12. According to officials, the killers came through the front door and killed Kamaleswari first, then Sugandha Kumar and then Nishant. They then closed the front door and locked the gate so that no one would know. Late Sunday night, the culprits returned to the house and tried to destroy evidence. Police suspect that the attackers put clothes on the bodies, set them on fire and locked the door again.
