Chennai: The Greater Chennai Police have arrested a 25-year-old man on charges of rape. The woman filed a complaint of fraud against him. She alleged that he physically exploited her after promising to marry her. Personnel from the Virugambakkam Women’s Police Station (AWPS) arrested Harshvardhan on Wednesday based on a complaint from a 25-year-old woman. The victim and the accused knew each other since college. In 2019, the accused contacted the woman and claimed to be in love with her, which she believed. In November 2024, their families met and agreed to arrange their marriage within two years. Meanwhile, last week, Harshvardhan went to her house when she was alone and they had physical relations. However, he subsequently broke off contact with her and stopped receiving her calls. Later, she refused to marry him, after which she contacted the police. The accused was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
