Chennai: Fed up with the tantrums of his alcoholic elderly son, a 60-year-old man beat him to death with the help of his younger son at his house in Vanagaram two days ago. The duo then told family members that the victim had died of natural causes and cremated the body. The deceased has been identified as A Vijay (30). Police sources said Vijay was addicted to alcohol and lived with his father S Asai Mani. Vijay’s wife had separated from him due to his antics. Police said Asai Mani had a plate fitted in one of his legs following an accident. On Friday night, Vijay came home drunk and started arguing with his father. In the ensuing tussle, he attacked his father’s leg. In a fit of rage, Mani attacked Vijay with a wooden log, following which he fell unconscious. Mani’s younger son A Ajay (26) came home and came to know about the incident, he took a knife and attacked his brother. When he learnt that Vijay had died, the father-son duo decided to hide their crime. They told his relatives that Vijay had died due to illness and took his body to the crematorium near Porur toll gate, where they cremated him. Based on a tip-off, the Maduravoyal police investigated and after investigation, Aasai Mani confessed to the murder. The police arrested Aasai Mani, his younger son Ajay and four of his relatives – S Thangamani (58), C Simeon (58), E Arunkumar (37) and P Sudesh (21) – who helped conceal the murder. All the accused were produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody.
