Chennai: Director Jagadeesan Subbu, known for films like Sigai and Bakrid, has completed shooting for his next film, which stars Kaali Venkat, Roshni Prakash and Vishwa Raj in the lead roles. “There is also a golden retriever puppy playing a key role in Dhonima,” he says. “Yes, the film is called Dhonima and it is the golden retriever who plays the lead role,” the filmmaker says with a big smile. He adds that Kaali Venkat plays a family man who loves cricket. “They have named their son Dravid. When they bring this puppy home, they name him Dhoni. When their son tells them that it is a female puppy, they name her Dhonima.
Roshni Prakash of Vanangan fame plays Kaali Venkat’s wife, who runs the family with her earnings, while Kaali is a spendthrift,” Jagadeesan reveals. Shooting a film with animals and children is challenging, but Jagadeesan says he completed the film in 36 days. “We shot the film near Kolathur. The post-production of the film is complete and we are targeting to release it on August 1,” he says. This will be his second consecutive film that revolves around animals. “I am an animal lover and I have a lot of animals at home. Bakrid revolved around a camel and now a puppy. There is a scene in the film about why we should not call a dog a dog and how it irritates them. Dhoni is not just about that, but there are a lot of emotions around it that the audience can connect with,” says the director. Produced by Sai Venkateswaran, Dhoni has music by EJ Johnson, camera by Packiaraj and Sajith Kumar while Tamil Arasan is the editor.
