CHENNAI: 2,000 assistant professors will be appointed by the end of the academic year.

Chennai: The recruitment process for over 2,000 Assistant Professors across government arts and science colleges throughout the state is expected to be completed by the end of the current academic year, as results for five subjects have already been released and certificate verification is set to begin shortly. Results for 40 subjects are expected to be declared by the end of March. Through a notification issued in October 2025, the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board announced the recruitment of 2,708 Assistant Professors for government arts and science colleges and government colleges of education under the Tamil Nadu Collegiate Educational Service. Subsequently, the Board conducted a written examination on December 27, in which 42,064 candidates appeared.
So far, results have been declared for History Education, Human Rights, Indian Culture and Tourism, Marine Biology, and Wildlife Biology. A senior official from the Higher Education Department stated, “The certificate verification process has been rescheduled from March 11 to March 23, and the interviews will now be held on March 24 instead of March 12.” The official noted that Assistant Professors would be appointed to teach across 48 different subjects. “Since the new academic year is about to commence, a decision has been taken to release the results for the remaining 43 subjects within this month itself,” the official added. The official further clarified that the entire recruitment process—including the issuance of appointment orders—would be completed before the commencement of the upcoming academic year. They also mentioned that selected candidates would undergo training prior to their posting. The official affirmed that authorities would ensure the recruitment process remains transparent. “All procedures, including the issuance of interview call letters, will be conducted online,” the official stated. Additionally, all eligible candidates will receive an SMS on their registered mobile numbers regarding the status of their recruitment process.
