Ayodhya. Significant changes are being implemented to further streamline the worship arrangements at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. Following an incident involving the theft of donations, various administrative and operational improvements are being introduced. As part of this initiative, a new dress code will be implemented for the priests (archaks) serving Ram Lalla. Starting August 15, all priests deployed at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple will be seen wearing a uniform attire.
Under the new dress code, yellow attire has been prescribed for all priests. A decision regarding this proposal was made during a previous meeting of the temple trust, and preparations to implement it from Independence Day are now complete. The temple administration aims to ensure uniformity and preserve the traditional character of the worship rituals.
According to the new system, it will be mandatory for priests to wear a dhoti on the lower body and an unstitched angavastra (upper garment) during the summer season. These angavastras will be made specifically of silk and draped over the shoulder. The temple administration devised this arrangement while taking religious traditions and weather conditions into account.
Worship of Lord Ram Lalla at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple follows specific religious rites and protocols, and the priests deployed there play a crucial role. Consequently, the trust desires uniformity in the priests’ attire to further enhance the temple’s dignity and religious atmosphere.
The temple trust has periodically introduced changes to worship and administrative procedures. Recently, major changes were also made to the process of counting donations and offerings; the procedures for calculating donation amounts and maintaining records are now being made more secure and transparent.
Temple operations were reviewed following the donation theft incident, leading to several measures aimed at improving security, surveillance, and financial procedures. The temple trust decided to implement new systems to strengthen operations and prevent any irregularities in the future.
The decision to introduce the new dress code is also viewed as a step towards improving the temple’s overall management. The Trust believes that a uniform dress code for the priests will foster a sense of discipline and uniformity within the temple. It will also make it easier for devotees to understand the worship arrangements.
Following the construction and consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, a large number of devotees from across the country and abroad are visiting the temple. Thousands of devotees offer prayers to Ram Lalla daily. Consequently, maintaining and improving the temple’s worship arrangements, security, and facilities remains a top priority for the Trust.
The temple administration is continuously striving to ensure a better experience for devotees while strictly adhering to religious traditions. The introduction of a new dress code for priests is considered a significant step in this direction.
