Chandigarh: Defending champions Captain 18 will take on Party Panthers in the final of the Chandigarh Golf League at Chandigarh Golf Club on October 12. The Panthers defeated Jubilee Chandigarh Gladiators 4.5-2.5 and Captain 18 forced another playoff to overtake C D The Mulligans when both teams were tied at the end of the regular seven games. The Panthers have had an undefeated campaign before coming into the semi-finals and they ensured there was no upset as K Raghav Bhandari won the opening singles comprehensively 6&4 while the other singles games were halved. The Gladiators piled on their four-ball. Brig PPS Dhillon and Captain MS Bedi won 6&4. The Panthers won 6&4 with co-owners Simrinder Singh and Bharat Bhandari, and the pair of Sahir Singh and Amarjot Bedi topped the table with a 7&5 win. Rohit Mittal and Sanjam Harish won 3&2.
In the first semi-final, five of the seven games went down to the final hole as Mulligans and Captain’s 18s attacked each other throughout the match. Mulligans won both the singles games 1-up, with Bismad Singh and Angad Sangha registering a stunning win against Randeep Singh and Padamjeet Sandhu. The two pairs faced off again in the playoffs and after halving the first two playoff holes, Randeep’s par score on the third playoff hole put the defending champions in the top tie. Kanwal Bajwa and Pukhraj Singh Brar combined with Col AS Bajwa and RS Mann to win for Captain’s 18. However, the second four-ball game proved to be decisive, where the undefeated pair of Amrinder Singh and Jaskirat Kaur Matharu failed to register a single point after being 3-up after playing three. Bhupinder Mundh and Rajeev Moudgil won the last three holes to halve their game. The final will be between two teams from Group A. Earlier, in the group game, Panthers registered a big 5.5-1.5 win over Captain’s 18. However, the knockouts are a different challenge as seen earlier in the year when Punjab Aces overcame Netsmartz Tigers in the semi-finals after losing by the same score line in their group match.
