Chandigarh: To avoid heavy crowds, the district courts here will start accepting traffic challans from September 11 for the National Lok Adalat to be held on September 14. Residents can submit their challans during working hours in the court from September 11 to September 13. They will be asked to go directly to the concerned court on the day of Lok Adalat. These steps are being taken to avoid crowding on September 14, a court official said. A list of courts where challans will be settled will be pasted at the ground floor entrance. Help desks will also be set up to guide residents.
The official said heavy crowds were witnessed during the last National Lok Adalat organised by the District Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh. The number of people reaching the courts for Lok Adalat is usually about two to three times more than the courts that take traffic challans. Criminal compoundable cases and cases relating to section 138 of the NI Act, bank recovery, accident claims, matrimonial disputes, arbitration cases, traffic challans, etc. are usually taken up and settled with the consent of the parties. District courts have already started virtual courts for settlement of traffic challan cases.
