Chandigarh: Candidates from Kalka and Panchkula Assembly Constituencies are being joined by their family members in their campaigning. BJP’s Kalka candidate Shakti Rani Sharma’s son Kartikeya Sharma, who is also an MP, has been campaigning with her since the announcement of her candidature, while Congress’ Panchkula candidate Chander Mohan’s son and daughter have held separate meetings with residents in different wards and villages to garner support. Panchkula’s sitting MLA Gyan Chand Gupta also joined his daughter in her election campaign on Thursday. Shakti Rani Sharma’s husband and former Union Minister Vinod Sharma and their son Kartikeya are campaigning for her in her constituency. Both of them joined her in road shows on the day of filing her nomination papers on September 11.
Kartikeya, while addressing meetings with Shakti Rani Sharma, has assured people that he will be present in Kalka if Shakti is elected from this constituency. Congress’ Panchkula candidate Chander Mohan’s son and daughter also joined her. Chaudhary was accompanied by his son Siddharth Bishnoi, daughter-in-law and grandson when he arrived at the district administrative complex to file his nomination papers on September 12. Since then, Siddharth and his daughter Shatakshi have been continuously campaigning and meeting people to garner support for him. Siddharth was also seen accompanying Congress leader and party ticket aspirant Manish Bansal during the party’s campaign. Meanwhile, Panchkula BJP candidate Gyan Chand Gupta’s daughter Ruchi also joined his campaign. While leading a group of women during a campaign in Sector 9 on Thursday, she said the region can progress only under the BJP’s rule. She attacked the Congress party, saying it only means corruption. “The Congress wants to come to power to promote corruption and nepotism. But the BJP’s aim of coming to power is public service,” she said.
