Chandigarh: In one of the rarest cases, Dr Sarabjeet of Sector 16 GMSH successfully operated on a 12-year-old female patient who had Rupunzel syndrome. “This is an extremely rare condition and the patient was treated free of cost. This was my second Rupunzel syndrome and third case of trichobezoar,” said Dr Sarabjeet. According to a recent report, only 68 cases of Rupunzel syndrome (a form of trichobezoar) have been reported worldwide. Rapunzel syndrome is an uncommon form of trichobezoar, found in patients with a history of mental disorders, trichotillomania (hair pulling habit) and trichophagia (morbid habit of hair chewing). Its symptoms are vomiting and upper abdominal pain.
