Chandigarh: For the first time in its three-year history, the Chandigarh Golf League title ended as joint winners despite five playoff holes. Party Panthers and Captain 18 played five playoffs at the Chandigarh Golf Club. Both teams played their seven games half-half and shared a point in one four-ball game. Jubilee Chandigarh Gladiators won the five-hole playoff against C D The Mulligans to finish third. Rabia Gill won 3&2 against IS Atwal for the Panthers, and Kanwal Bajwa pulled off an upset by pulling a point back against K Raghav Bhandari for Captain 18. Panthers’ Ramanik Tiwana and Flight Lieutenants Sukhinder Singh, Simrinder Singh and Bharat Bhandari won their games easily.
Captain’s Bhupinder Mundh and Rajiv Moudgil along with Padamjeet Sandhu and Pukhraj Brar brought their team back on par. Before the final game, Yadvinder Bains along with Wing Commander LS Sandhu faced Rohit Mittal and Sanjam Harish. In the playoff, Rabia and K Raghav Bhandari (Panthers) faced Sandhu and Kanwal Bajwa (Captain’s 18). In the first playoff hole, Rabia tried for birdie while Sandhu tied the score. After the third hole, Bhandari missed a short one. In the fourth hole of sudden death, Bajwa came back and tied the score. Unfortunately, Rabia missed the fifth hole. Bajwa came back again to cross the net while Bhandari’s 15 feet putt halved the hole. Due to poor light, both teams decided to share the trophy.
Gladiators finish third

Brigadier PPS Dhillon won 4&3 in the singles for the Gladiators, while Col VP Singh and Lt Gen BS Sachar and Inderpreet Singh and Jaspartap Sekhon won. Gauhar Pruthi and Fateh Singh Dhillon won 6&5 for the Mulligans, followed by another brilliant performance by SS Matharu and APS Kahai, who won 4&2. The match went into a playoff as the last game was halved, with Angad Sangha and Col Harjeet Singh making a comeback after trailing 2 with 3 to play. The first four holes were halved and Col SDS Batth and Brigadier PPS Dhillon won the 5th playoff hole after surviving a charge from Bismad Singh and Gauhar Pruthi on the last three holes.
