Chandigarh: To encourage the community to keep their surroundings green, the Municipal Corporation today launched a new initiative by distributing Tulsi saplings at Rose Horticulture Nursery in Sector 23. The initiative aims to encourage citizens to buy saplings from the Municipal Corporation Nursery at a subsidized price. Mayor Kuldeep Kumar and Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra distributed Tulsi saplings under the ‘Swachhata Ki Muhr’ initiative.
The Mayor said the Municipal Corporation planted a total of 72,864 saplings, including 6,784 trees and 66,080 shrubs, across the city. The plantation drive will be carried out in various sectors, parks, green belts, community centers, rehabilitation colonies and other prominent places in the city. State Bank of India organised a cyclothon to celebrate the day and spread awareness about conservation. More than 100 employees participated in the event.
