Chandigarh: A special CBI court in Mohali on September 30 sentenced former Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) sales executive Abhinav Sethi to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh in an eight-year-old disproportionate assets case.
Sethi was found to have amassed Rs 28.11 lakh during the period 2008 to 2012. Seeking leniency, the convict said his eight-year-old son is studying in Oman. He said he has no previous convictions, had shown good conduct during the trial and was working in Oman after his services were terminated by HPCL. He said his case falls under the PC Act before the 2014 amendment, where the minimum punishment is one year.
