Chandigarh: A day after nearly 50 vehicles were vandalised and two youths were attacked in Sector 56, a local resident’s house was fired upon today. The assailants, who had quarrelled with the staff of the victim Robin’s food stall at the night food street outside Punjab University (PU) and opened fire there, targeted his house just hours after the incident at the food stall. Fortunately, the entire family, including children sleeping in the house, escaped unhurt when the miscreants opened fire. Robin said that around 10:30 pm, a fight broke out between his manager and some people. The matter worsened when the miscreants slapped his manager and fired three bullets while fleeing from the spot. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras. After getting information about the incident, Robin reached his food stall. After returning home after some time, he had to face a horrific situation at home. The people who quarrelled at the food stall reached his house and fired four bullets. One bullet pierced the door and got embedded in the kitchen wall. The police was informed. A team reached the spot and started investigation. The forensic team also conducted a thorough investigation of the crime scene. Sources said three bullet shells were recovered from the spot. The police have also collected CCTV footage of the area for further investigation.
According to the police officer, the attackers, residents of Sector 25 colony, have been identified. The continuous incidents of lawlessness in Sector 56 have angered the residents. Local resident Suraj said, “The police need to increase patrolling in the area as the miscreants have no fear. Several vehicles were damaged a day before and now the firing in the early morning has shocked everyone.” The police have registered a case at Sector 39 police station and another at Sector 11 police station.
