Chandigarh: The Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) polls to be held on September 3 will be two cornered. Amarjit Singh Naura, the incumbent president, and Mritunjay Kumar, the incumbent general secretary, are going to contest for the same posts again this year. Ashok Kumar, the president candidate against Naura this time, had contested last year also.
In the 2023 elections, Naura had defeated Rattan Singh by eight votes. Mritunjay had won the general secretary post by a margin of two votes, defeating Kashmir Singh. While the contest was three-cornered last year with Navdeep Goyal group participating, this time it would be between Naura-Mritunjay and Ashok Kumar groups.
