Himachal Pradesh: A tragic road accident occurred in Chamba district, killing four people on the spot. The incident reportedly occurred late last night on the Nakrod-Himgiri Dam side road under the Teesa subdivision. The accident came to light in the morning when locals spotted a vehicle in a deep ravine along the roadside and immediately informed the administration.
According to reports, the vehicle involved in the accident (number HP-44A-0494) was traveling from Nakrod to Himgiri. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle plunged into a deep ravine. Due to the darkness and deserted road, the incident was not immediately reported.
In the morning, when people from the surrounding rural area passed by, they saw a damaged vehicle in the ravine. This created a stir, and the locals immediately informed the police and administration. Upon receiving the information, a rescue team arrived at the scene and began a rescue operation by descending into the ravine.
Preliminary investigations revealed that all four people in the vehicle died on the spot. The bodies were extricated from the ditch with considerable effort and sent to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
According to the local administration, the cause of the accident is still unclear, but it is initially believed that the road conditions, the darkness of the night, and the vehicle’s speed may have contributed to the accident. Police have stated that all aspects are being investigated and a technical examination of the vehicle will also be conducted.
The accident has caused an atmosphere of mourning in the entire area. The process of identifying the deceased is underway and efforts are being made to inform their families. As soon as the news reached the surrounding villages, a large number of people gathered at the scene.
Villagers reported that this road is hilly and has dangerous curves, often posing a risk of accidents due to poor visibility at night. They have demanded that the administration increase safety measures on this route to prevent such incidents in the future.
The police and administration have also appealed to the public to exercise special caution when traveling at night in hilly areas and to avoid unnecessarily driving on dangerous roads. Officials also stated that additional road safety measures will be considered soon in the area.
Rescue teams reported that the rescue operation was difficult due to the deep ravine. With the help of local residents, the bodies were successfully retrieved. Following this, the entire area was temporarily sealed off and the accident site was inspected.
This tragic incident has once again raised questions about road safety in hilly areas. Locals have long demanded barricades, warning signs, and better lighting on this route, but adequate measures have not yet been taken.
The administration has assured that a detailed investigation report will be prepared and necessary corrective measures will be taken. Police teams are currently examining CCTV footage and other evidence from around the scene.
In this way, this accident in Chamba district has come as a deep shock for four families and an atmosphere of mourning prevails in the entire area.
