Himachal Pradesh: The District Child Protection Unit in collaboration with Childline has launched a campaign to rehabilitate children living in slums of Chamba district and connect them with the education system. A joint team will conduct inspections two-three times a month to identify children living in slums and connect them with the education system. Efforts will also be made to rescue and rehabilitate children selling plastic waste. The team inspected Sultanpur and Mai Ka Bagh areas near Chamba town on Thursday and looked for children living without parental care.
However, no such child was found on the first day of the campaign. The team also informed the residents about various government schemes and urged them to inform the authorities about such children by calling the toll-free Childline number – 1098. Childline coordinator Kapil Sharma and outreach worker Babli Devi were present during the campaign. Child protection officer Rinku Sharma said the campaign aims to identify children living in slums and rehabilitate them. He said that the department’s team is actively conducting inspections to achieve this target.
