CG CRIME: Elderly man brutally murdered on suspicion of witchcraft, sensation spreads

Surajpur. Surajpur. Four members of a family killed a 65-year-old woman on suspicion of practicing witchcraft in a village in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district. Giving information, Surajpur Additional Superintendent of Police Santosh Mahato said that the police have arrested a couple and their two sons for the murder that took place on November 14 in Sawarwa village of Odgi police station area. He said that the accused have been identified as Pran Sai (59), his wife Munni Bai (57), their sons Mukesh (18) and Mukum (23). Police said that another son of Pran Sai had committed suicide three-four years ago.

The family believes that this death is the result of black magic done by the victim Nanki Bai. He told that on November 14, Mukesh called the elderly woman home and made her drink alcohol, after which Munni Bai accused the victim of killing her son by practicing witchcraft. Mukesh attacked the woman with an axe and her brother strangled her. The family then took the body to a nearby forest and hung it from a tree to make it look like a suicide, the SP said. Villagers spotted the body on November 16 and informed the police. Four accused involved in the case have been arrested.
