CBI Joint Director Ghanshyam Upadhyay’s tenure extended

Odisha: The Central Government has granted a two-year extension to senior Odisha cadre IPS officer Ghanshyam Upadhyay, giving him greater administrative responsibility. He currently serves as Joint Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

According to sources, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved a departmental proposal in this regard. This proposal was sent by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which recommended extending the central deputation tenure of Ghanshyam Upadhyay and another CBI Joint Director, Rajiv Ranjan.

Subsequently, an official notification was issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, confirming this decision. According to the notification, the central deputation tenure of 1999 batch IPS officer Ghanshyam Upadhyay has now been extended until June 29, 2028.

With this extension, Upadhyay will hold various important responsibilities under the Central Government for a total of seven years. It is believed that his role in several important investigation and surveillance cases in the CBI has led to this additional tenure.

According to administrative sources, the Central Government grants such extensions to officers whose performance is considered outstanding and who play a key role in central agencies. Ghanshyam Upadhyay has also been involved in the investigation of several sensitive and high-profile cases in the CBI.

Similarly, the decision to extend the tenure of Rajiv Ranjan, another Joint Director of the CBI, has been taken, ensuring continuity at the senior level within the agency. The government believes that the presence of experienced officers in investigative agencies can help investigate complex cases more effectively.

This decision comes at a time when the role of central investigative agencies is continuously increasing in several important cases. Therefore, extending the tenure of experienced officers is considered an administratively important step.

Ghanshyam Upadhyay’s extension has made it clear that the Central Government has decided to entrust him with further responsibilities in view of his role and contribution to the CBI.
