Bengaluru (IANS) | In the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday, Kolkata all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer took a brilliant catch of Bangalore captain Virat Kohli near the boundary line and he called it a match-changing moment.
In the 13th over of the innings, Kohli picked up Andre Russell’s short ball and hit it. Positioned at deep mid-wicket, Iyer ran in and dived to his left to take a low catch with both hands. Sharing a video on IPL’s social media account, Iyer wrote that Kohli’s catch was the match-changing moment for Kolkata.
Iyer said, “I was lucky that the catch was very flat. I didn’t have time to think. It got caught in my hand. I am very happy that I took the catch because Virat bhai was frozen and at that time his catch The catch turned out to be a match-changing moment for us.”
After the fall of Virat’s wicket, the collapse of Bengaluru’s innings started. The wickets of Suyash Prabhudesai, Vanindu Hasaranga and Dinesh Karthik fell in quick succession and Bengaluru were reduced to 179 for eight. Bengaluru had to face defeat by 21 runs.
Iyer scored 31 runs in 26 balls while batting. Kolkata have mostly used Iyer as an impact player this season. This means that Iyer has not done most of the fielding during Kolkata’s bowling.
Iyer said, “I am glad to be back on the field. I haven’t fielded for some time. It is after five-six months that I fielded in pressure situations.”
Kolkata will next face Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens on April 29.
