Ramdas police have registered a case against two people on charges of forgery and cheating after they allegedly duped a local resident of Rs 26.68 lakh on the pretext of providing him a Canadian work visa.
Those booked were identified as Navdeep Singh alias Fauji, resident of Dallake village and Siwani, resident of Preet Nagar on Fatehgarh Churian Road here.
The victim has been identified as Jugraj Singh, a resident of Gorenangal village, who had lodged a police complaint in September last year. In his complaint, he alleged that the duo took Rs 26.68 lakh by luring him to get a work visa for Canada. However, they neither sent him back to Canada nor returned his money and passport.
The investigation was conducted by the DSP of the Economic Offenses Wing, who recommended filing an FIR against the suspects. After investigation, SSP, Amritsar (Rural) directed Ramdas police to register a case.
Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Gurmukh Singh said that a case has been registered against Navdeep and Siwani under sections 420, 120-B, 467 and 468 of the IPC. Further investigation was ongoing. He said that raids are going on to arrest the suspects.
