The High Court has sought a reply from the state government on the non-admission of children of economically weaker section (EWS) in the major private schools of the state under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The next hearing of this case has been scheduled on July 30. Senior social worker of Bhilai CV Bhagwant Rai had presented a PIL in the High Court regarding the right to education through advocate Devarshi Singh. The petition said that under the RTE Act, 25 percent of the seats should be reserved in private schools for EWS children. If admission is not being given in schools located within a radius of one kilometer, then admission should be given in schools located within a radius of three kilometers or more. chhattisgarh

On behalf of the private schools, it was said in the High Court that they are fully following the provisions of the RTE Act, but they are not getting enough applications. Admission is given on the basis of the applications received. According to the data presented in the court by the petitioner, about one lakh 22 thousand applications have been received for 59 thousand vacant seats under the RTE Act in the state. In Raipur district alone, 19 thousand admission applications have been received for 5 thousand seats.
