Canal water reaches tribal farmers.
Warangal: There is great news of relief for farmers. On Sunday, water from the Godavari River reached the parched fields of Mangali Banda Tanda and surrounding villages within the Raghunathpalli Mandal of Jangaon district. Fulfilling the promise he made to the tribal farmers, Station Ghanpur MLA and former Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari formally released the water and performed a ‘Ganga Puja’—using turmeric and vermilion—to celebrate the arrival of canal water for the Yasangi (Rabi) season. This water was released from the Bommakuru Reservoir following the completion of extensive repair work on the canal.
Speaking on the occasion, Srihari stated that approximately ₹20 lakh had been spent on desilting the canal and clearing vegetation to ensure an uninterrupted flow of water to remote tribal areas. He assured the farmers that they would continue to receive an uninterrupted water supply for the next month. The MLA acknowledged the challenges encountered during the canal’s repair work and thanked the farmers for their cooperation. Addressing the concerns of those whose lands were affected by the canal’s alignment, he pledged to personally oversee the process of securing them appropriate compensation. He emphasized that the arrival of Godavari water represents a collective victory for the local community, which had long struggled with water scarcity.
Srihari further informed the gathering that ₹30 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of BT roads connecting all the Tanda villages within the Raghunathpalli Mandal. He also announced several new schemes for Mangali Banda Tanda, including the construction of a water tank under ‘Mission Bhagiratha,’ the construction of a tribal community hall, and the sanctioning of 20 ‘Indiramma’ houses. He informed those present that funds under the ‘Rythu Bharosa’ scheme would begin to be deposited into farmers’ bank accounts starting March 22. Earlier in the day, the MLA inaugurated a new ‘Indiramma’ house built for beneficiary Moodu Ravinder and stated that the Congress government is fully committed to fulfilling the dream of the poor to own a home. District Library Corporation Chairman Marujodu Rambabu, officials from the Irrigation Department, and local public representatives were also present at the event.
