New Delhi: The country’s industrial production grew by 4.8 percent in July on the back of strong growth in power generation along with manufacturing. It had grown by 4.7 percent in June.
According to data released by the Central Statistics Ministry on Thursday, the growth rate of the mining sector in July was 3.7 percent, manufacturing 4.6 percent and electricity 7.9 percent.
The manufacturing sector has the highest weightage of 77.63 percent in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
The sub-categories that performed best in the manufacturing sector include basic metals (6.4 percent), coke and refined petroleum products (6.9 percent), and electrical equipment (28.3 percent).
On the basis of consumption, the growth rate of primary products was 5.9 percent, capital goods 12 percent, intermediate goods 6.8 percent, infrastructure and construction sector goods 4.9 percent and durable consumer products 8.2 percent.
Production in the non-durable consumer goods category declined by 4.4 per cent.
