Bus returning from wedding ceremony in Australia crashes, 10 killed

Canberra (IANS) | At least 10 people were killed and 25 others injured when a bus returning from a wedding crashed in Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) state. The police gave this information on Monday. The accident happened near Greta in the Hunter Valley at around 11.30 pm on Sunday night while returning from a wedding ceremony to a winery, the BBC reported. According to NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Tracey Chapman, the driver of the bus has been arrested

Chapman said the death toll could rise, adding that 25 passengers were hospitalized.

He said that there is still a possibility of people getting buried under the bus.

The BBC quoted a top police officer as saying that the driver of the bus had been arrested. He is also hurt.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he was “deeply saddened” by the incident. He told a press conference in Canberra that the accident was tragic. He expressed deep condolences to the bereaved people.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said he was devastated by the loss of life. Where there should have been happiness, there was sorrow. It’s sad.
