Burgampahad Farmers Protest Over Delay in Grain Procurement

Burgampahad, April 24: Farmers are struggling to sell their crops after months of hard work. If the government’s failure to set up grain purchase centers on time has become a problem, then the farmers are worried as the managers of the purchase centers have not purchased the grain that has been stored in bulk at the poorly set purchase centers for months, making unreasonable excuses. On Friday, farmers protested in front of the Rythu Vedika located at the Burgampahad Agricultural Market Yard demanding the purchase of grain. Along with AO Shankar, PACS CEO Prasad and society staff Tirupati Reddy were detained at the Rythu Vedika and locked outside. The farmers said that the AO has not made any purchases despite keeping the grain stored in bulk at the purchase center for months, and that the grain should be purchased immediately, otherwise they will commit suicide.

The farmers who came to sell their crops were told to wait by giving tokens and slips, but they were not told when they would buy the grain. They expressed their dissatisfaction that it has already been a month since the sale of the grain, and they are sitting on the piles of grain without any food. They said that if some farmers resort to middlemen and sell their crops, they will have to suffer losses due to lack of support. When the farmers confront the CEO of the society about why the grain procurement is being delayed, the farmers allege that he is giving irrelevant answers regarding the purchases and that he is saying that he will buy the crop as his officials have said. The farmers are still demanding that the government and district officials respond and start the crop procurement and make the purchases without delay.
