Hyderabad: Pet Basheerabad police on Saturday detained former minister Malla Reddy, his son-in-law Rajasekhara Reddy and their followers in connection with an alleged land dispute in survey number 82 under Suchitra.
The dispute centers on land which Mallareddy claims belongs to him. Tension escalated when Malla Reddy’s followers were ordered to remove illegal fencing around the disputed land and expressed their anger that their land was being wrongfully encroached upon. He questioned the police, asking how they could give permission to erect the fence.
Fourteen years ago, Mallareddy’s son-in-law and sons had reportedly purchased the property from a Marwari man. It is said that this area is a total of 17 acres, where once upon a time there used to be a factory. However, Malla Reddy claims that individuals from Karimnagar have allegedly created false documents and now claim ownership of the land, including over two acres of land owned by him.
Meanwhile, Rajasekhara Reddy also argued with the police and insisted that he was on his rightful ground. He said he had filed complaints earlier and had not encroached on anyone else’s property.
The case has been going on for eight years. The Karimnagar group now claims ownership of the land. We repeatedly requested surveys to verify the claims, yet they placed barricades on the ground. Rajasekhara Reddy said, we had complained to the police about these actions, but it was ignored.
He criticized, the phones of our chowkidars were taken away and if the two MLAs are not protected then there can be no justice for the common people.
Pet Bashirabad police took the people involved in the dispute into custody and are currently investigating the matter. In light of the court order, the police tried to mediate between the parties to prevent further disputes.
