Maharashtra: The discovery of the body of a 55-year-old man between the Jogeshwari and Ram Mandir railway tracks in Mumbai at around 3 pm on Thursday afternoon created a stir in the area. Police initially considered it a case of suicide, but the deceased’s brother filed a complaint against his wife, accusing her of abetment to suicide. Following the complaint, the Borivali Railway Police registered a case of abetment to suicide on Thursday and began an investigation.
Police identified the deceased as Nitin Chavan. Nitin worked as a sculptor and lived in Nalasopara. His wife, 47-year-old Madhura Chavan, worked at a non-governmental organization (NGO). According to local sources, the two often quarreled over domestic matters.
The deceased’s brother stated that Nitin had shared a video with them before his death, in which he allegedly expressed his frustration with his wife and wanted to commit suicide. Based on this video, the family filed a complaint with the police alleging abetment to suicide.
Police stated that initial information in this case was obtained through passengers. They said that some people saw a man fall under a local train and die. However, it is not yet clear which train hit him.
Borivli Railway Police inspected the scene and sent the body for post-mortem. Also, based on the video and other evidence, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against the wife. The police officer stated that this case is extremely sensitive and is being investigated carefully.
The investigating officer further stated that CCTV footage on the track, train timings, and information from local witnesses are being collected. Police are also ensuring that all aspects are investigated to determine the real cause of the deceased’s death.
Locals reported that the railway line between Jogeshwari and Ram Mandir is often crowded, and such incidents highlight the importance of security there. Police have appealed to residents to remain vigilant around the tracks and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately.
This incident has caused deep grief and concern among the family and the local community. The deceased’s brother and other relatives are actively participating in the police investigation and have urged a fair and speedy completion of the investigation.
