Mumbai Filmmaker Boney Kapoor himself is in legal trouble as a vendor has accused him of not paying a bill of Rs 1 crore for the supply of equipment during the production of the upcoming film Maidaan. Ajay Devgan is in the lead role in the film. According to reports, Meherafrin Investments Pvt Ltd has filed a case against Kapoor and the co-producers of Maidaan. The seller claimed that despite contacting the filmmaker several times, he has been delaying payments and no dues have been paid since December 2020.
“Even after being assured, we were left in the dark. With no recourse left, we took legal recourse and issued a legal notice with the intention that we would get some clarification on our dues. To our surprise, there was no response to our legal reply Notice not received,” said the complainant. After the suit was filed, Kapoor said that the principal amount to be paid to the seller is Rs 63 lakh and as promised, the makers intend to pay the pending dues before the Eid release of Maidaan.

He said, “Everyone knows that the picture was stuck due to COVID. I have made 45 films and no one in my company has been deprived. This is nothing but arm-twisting tactics.” For those who don’t know, Maidaan was announced several years ago, however, the film could not hit the theaters in the last few years due to several hurdles including the COVID-19 lockdown. The film is based on the life and journey of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in the late 50s and early 60s, who is credited with revolutionizing the sport in India. While Ajay will be seen playing the lead role, the film also stars Priyamani, Keerthy Suresh, Gajraj Rao and others in lead roles.
