BJP is brainstorming on defeat in Karnataka

Bengaluru (IANS) | The BJP is holding back-to-back meetings on Thursday to introspect on the defeat in the recently concluded Karnataka assembly elections. According to sources, the selection of candidates for the post of Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council will also be discussed in the meeting.

In the meeting of the legislators, a strategy is being chalked out to surround the Congress government in the upcoming budget session. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is going to present the budget on July 7.

Encouraged by the implementation of the guarantee schemes, the saffron party is mulling over its strategy to counter the Congress.

The party will also organize a meeting of the defeated candidates. Many sitting ministers lost the elections. In this context, the meeting assumes significance as the senior leaders facing defeat are likely to speak candidly about where they went wrong and how the party’s strategy failed in the elections.

In the evening there will be a meeting of the core committee, in which the inputs received from the meeting held in the morning will be discussed.

Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh, state party president Nalin Kumar Kateel, former chief minister M.S. Basavaraj Bommai, B.S. Yeddyurappa, national general secretary C.T. Ravi will attend the meeting.

Party sources said the high command is considering appointing a Lingayat or Vokkaliga leader to the post of state president or leader of the opposition in the assembly.

Sources said a leader from the backward class will take over as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council.
