Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) strongly condemned the recent firing incident on NH-18 near Asanjoada in Baripada, where a young man, Shri Sibananda Barik, was critically injured after being shot multiple times in broad daylight by armed assailants during an alleged robbery attempt.
In a memorandum submitted to the Superintendent of Police, Mayurbhanj, senior leaders and representatives of the BJD demanded immediate arrest of all those involved and stringent legal action to serve as a deterrent against such heinous crimes.
The conch party expressed grave concern over the increasing instances of violence and lawlessness in the district, especially on key routes like NH-18, which is crucial for connectivity and commerce.
The BJD delegation that included Sudam Marandi, Sanand Marandi, Bharati Hansda, Krushnananda Mohanty, Subramaniam Mohanty, Sanjay Kumar Bose, Debashis Mohanty, Jitendra Mohanty, and Parbhat Kumar Nayak demanded for:
Immediate arrest of the accused involved in the attack,
Exemplary punishment to ensure justice and public confidence,
Strengthened law enforcement along major highways and public zones in the district.
The BJD leaders reiterated that public safety is paramount and called for urgent administrative intervention to restore law and order in Mayurbhanj.
