Bijapur: The Naxalite attack in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh on Monday was carried out by the Naxalites’ Bhairamgarh West Area Committee. 50 kg of IED explosives were used in the attack. According to intelligence security agency sources, there is a reward of 25 lakhs on Bhairamgarh West Bastar Area Committee commander Paparao. This committee is being operated by him. South Bastar Area Committee is led by dreaded Naxalite leader Hidma. A forward operating base has been established in his area a few months ago.

On January 6, Naxalites targeted a vehicle of security forces with an IED blast in Kutru, a forest area of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, killing 8 security personnel and 1 driver. Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said that the Naxalites blew up a police vehicle using an improvised explosive device on the Kutru-Bedre road. According to sources, the security personnel were returning from an anti-Naxal operation in the Abujhmad area, which began on January 3 and 5 Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces on the evening of January 4. A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was also martyred in this encounter.
Out of the 8 police personnel who lost their lives in the Bijapur Naxal attack, 5 were former Naxalites. A senior officer said that all five had joined the mainstream a few years ago and joined the police force. Bastar Range IG Sundarraj P said that the DRG jawans who lost their lives in the Bijapur IED blast were Head Constable Budhram Korsa, Constable Dumma Markam, Pandaru Ram, Baman Sodhi and Constable Somdu Vetti of Bastar Fighters, who were earlier active as Naxalites, and had joined the police force after surrendering.
